How to Prevent Mold in the Home.
Mold cannot grow without water. To eliminate mold, you must eliminate excess moisture.
Control Humidity: Keep indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50%. Use air conditioners or dehumidifiers to lower moisture.
Improve Ventilation: Always run exhaust fans in the bathroom during showers and in the kitchen while cooking. Open windows to let fresh air circulate.
Fix Leaks Immediately: Repair plumbing leaks, roof leaks, or window gaps as soon as you find them.
Dry Wet Areas Quickly: Clean up floods, spills, or damp spots within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold spores from taking root.
Clean with the Right Products: If you find a small patch of mold, scrub it off hard surfaces using dish soap and water, or a specialized commercial mold cleaner.
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): When cleaning mold, protect your health by wearing an N95 mask/respirator, rubber gloves, and safety goggles.
